I try to lead an active lifestyle and need a lot of energy to do what I love to do. I used to try to get my energy from consuming increasingly exorbitant amounts of caffeine from energy drinks. I found this to be an unsustainable source of energy. Now my best, most energized days result from a good night’s sleep and are started with a fresh green smoothie for breakfast. My favorite ingredients include kale, spinach leaves, apple juice, apples, bananas, pineapple, chia seeds, blueberries, strawberries, peaches, and raspberries. 

I love to exercise and have recently taken up running. I’m running the Utah Grand Slam this year with a friend – an event that consists of four marathons and a 1,000+ miles of training and running. With all those miles pavement pounding, it’s worth it to get a comfortable pair of running shoes that aligns with your running style and biomechanics. Right now, I’m really enjoying the Saucony Guide 6 shoes and am on my second pair. 

Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, USUFans.com, comment sections of articles in the Herald Journal, Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, KSL.com, etc., have always fascinated me. I love reading commentary on current events, controversial and sometimes heated topics, and other subjects of interested. A lot can be learned and gained from evaluating the merits of people’s arguments and written logic. Reading, and sometimes engaging in conversation, has really helped me to refine my writing and language ability – plus it’s a great way to stay on top of current events.

Every time I go sailing, I learn something new. It’s an amazing sport on many levels; I love teaching people how to sail, I love learning from other sailors, and I love the solitude and focus sailing brings to its participants.

20th century classics are among my favorites. My favorite author is John Steinbeck. I also enjoy books that cover philosophy, economics, and New York Times Best Seller books. 

Podcasts are my passive entertainment. They keep me entertained when I drive, run, and am doing anything that doesn’t take too much concentration.

I love movies, especially documentaries. To me, documentaries are well-researched news stories with higher production values. I also love Arrested Development and Parks & Rec. 

Indian food, Mexican food, pizza – everything seems better when I choose to ditch the chains and try something unique to a city. Dominoes pizza taste the same in Logan, UT as it does in New Orleans, LA – so why not try some local sausage and shrimp jambalaya.
